On September 14, 2022, Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R - Kansas) called for the termination of federal grant funding to Ecohealth Alliance (Ecohealth). Like many in science and government, the Senator is concerned about the increasingly clear trail of culpability for the Covid 19 pandemic leading back to Ecohealth. Unless or until there is full disclosure about the work Ecohealth farmed out to the Chinese Wuhan laboratory, America should not be funding them.
Instead, on September 21, 2022, Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) funded a new grant to Ecohealth to study, what else, novel corona viruses and “spillover” from wildlife to humans. In in the ultimate show of bureaucratic unaccountability, we’re funding our own demise. Or so it would seem.
Led by Peter Dazak, Ecohealth has been “studying” bat coronvirus human spillover since 2014 with NIAID funding. Also in 2014, Obama called for a pause to funding gain of function research. And even though such pause was not limited to projects on U.S. soil, Fauci and Dazak went ahead with this research via an Ecohealth/Wuhan lab (and CCP) partnership. Then eleven days before Trump took office, Obama “unpaused” the gain of function research. Days later, Fauci told a Georgtown University audience
There is no question that there will be a challenge to the coming administration in the arena of infectious diseases.
The stated reason for this research with its corresponding millions in tax payer funding is to stay a step ahead of mother nature. The theory is that wildlife viruses can evolve and jump species to humans. Therefore, by studying - and recreating - how this evolution occurs, we can anticipate human pandemic outbreaks and prepare for them.
How might we prepare? Probably by working on vaccines. Or by engaging in propaganda strategizing pandemic simulations such as Event 201 in October 2019 or SPARS in 2017.
The problem is that this justification fails the zoonotic laugh test. Animal viruses don’t jump species suddenly. Nothing in evolution happens quickly. And despite the claim, there is zero evidence that SARS-COV-2 came from a Chinese wet market. Therefore I can see no reason to “study” how it happens. Is it a good idea to monitor wildlife viruses? Probably. But to invest millions in risky recreations of viral evolution is insane and dangerous.
According to the various world health officials, approximately 6 million people have died from Covid 19. Reasonable people would probably agree that it is not worth risking future human harm in order to mimic mother nature in a lab. But clearly Fauci and Dazack are not reasonable people.
